Mahota Textiles is the first tribally owned textile company. We draw our inspiration from our Southeastern heritage, creating elevated and meaningful textiles designed in Oklahoma and woven in the USA.
Every Mahota textile is designed in Oklahoma by Chickasaw tribal artists and woven from natural materials.
Sun symbols, also called sun circles, appear as variable designs in Southeast tribal history. They often include concentric circles, spirals, contain a cross or inverted scalloped lines within a circle.
Today these symbols still suggest the relationships of man and earth to the sun, which generously and faithfully lights our way, warms our days and brings forth food.
Each purse is cut from a different portion of the full blanket pattern, making them all unique! No two purses will look the same!
