Still Life Painting in Oils

July 6, 13, 20, 27

6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Thursday evenings in July, 4 weeks

With still life as the subject matter, this course focuses on painting in the chiaroscuro tradition by way of “alla prima,” or working wet into wet. The focus will be to achieve the maximum amount of depth and brilliancy of light, maintain rich color, and achieve a sense of air in the painting. A look at the masters of chiaroscuro painting, both past and present, will allow for discussions on effective design. Students will work on a new painting every two weeks.
