Young Cowboy
Young Cowboy
By Will James
By the time Billy Roper was one year old, his dad was toting him along on horseback rides, and in a few more years Billy was leading his own pony around the corral. While keeping the branding fire hot at roundup time, young Billy watches the skillful riding and roping of the ranch hands and learns about the hard work and responsibilities required of a cowboy. In between rides around the ranch, Billy takes on the serious business of learning to read and write his ABCs, coaxed along by the incentive of writing an order for his first pair of spurs.
